| Aims of the course | Introductory course in the application of the ionizing radiation in medical diagnostics and radiation therapy. | |||||||||
| Learning outcomes | Upon the successful course completion students should have a basic knowledge about the application of the ionizing radiation in diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy. Students should learn about the interaction mechanisms between biological systems and the ionizing radiation. Introduction to modern imaging and therapeutic equipment. | |||||||||

| Lectures | Interaction mechanisms between the ionizing radiation and matter. Foundations of dosimetry. Diagnostic x-ray equipment. Fourier back-projection and the CT image reconstruction. Basics of nuclear medicine. Position Emission Tomography (PET) diagnostics. Medical linear accelerators. Dosimetry of teletherapy equipment. Brachytherapy sources and dosimetry. Basics of the radiation safety physics. | |||||||||
